How it all began...

I wanted to get myself back into shape and decided running sounded like the way to go,  although I had never really been into it before. A good friend of mine and I stated the couch to 5k method and after a few weeks I just failed to make time for it and stopped.

Same friend decided to run a half marathon in April and I went to watch a bit, after seeing some of the people that were also running it and feeling like I really should have stuck with it I decided to think some more.  In May I took my kids to see the 5/3 Riverbank Run and cheer on the runners.  That is where I got the bug to try again.  So I thought about it some more and started looking up races.

Somehow I found the Disney series of races.  I think I had been looking at Disney World online (a Disney vacation is always something I enjoy dreaming about) and with my searching for races,  Google did their thing and pulled up rundisney.  That was the start of it.  I talked with a good friend of mine and she said she would like to do it too.  Then to talk to the husbands.  Suprisingly they were on board (they may have thought it was a fad). I knew if we were going to plunk down the money for a Disney vacation around a race I wanted to do,  there was no way I could back out.

My wonderful husband and I decided before I tried to get back into running I needed to go to a local running shop and get fitted properly for shoes.  I ended up in Mizuno's, a brand I had never heard of but now adore. I felt the 8.5 was right for me and so did the clerk.  After running for 2 weeks and feeling as though my toes were pushing the edge of my shoes and I took them back to the shop.  The reason I will always go back to a running shop is this, even though I had run 6x in them they were too small. The store took them back and got me into the right size which ended up being a 9.5.

I started again with the couch to 5k in early June,  finished with a 5k in July and then got lazy.  It was summer,  my kids were home,  etc, etc, etc.  Before I knew it it was September and I still needed training but hadn't done it with any real regularity.  On rundisney's web site there are running plans by Jeff Galloway for each run they have.  I downloaded the princess half marathon one for beginners or those running less than 6 months to my calendar and realized I had plenty of time.

I can now do a run walk combination and do 10k in about an hour and 6 minutes.  I have a long way to go but I am trying.  For me just doing this is a win.

In April of 1992 I had a cardiac arrest and was diagnosed with Long Q-T Heart Syndrome. The q-t heart wave is longer than most people's. I was told to stay away from athletic activity competitively. And so I did some. I coxed crew at my college and worked out some with the rowers. After college as a lot of us do, I slacked off on working out, only going to the gym occasionally.

Fast forward to present time, I have 3 little girls, and they adore me. My husband is active in bicycling, mountain biking, cyclocross, fat tire riding. I want them to see me being active as their daddy is. We go cheer him at his races and I want them to feel the same pride for me as they do with him.

So here I am, I am a runner, a beginning runner but a runner.
